Even saying that we don't even know for sure if DX10 games are even going to bring any performance increases of the competition, it's all speculation right now and that's all we can do, speculate. I would rather have a decent performer all-round. Nothing like totally underperforming in DX9 games and then only being equal or slightly better in DX10 games compared to the competition.

The main thing for me personally will be driver updates, I will be interested to see how well the card improves over time while I save my pennies for my next new machine.Д®veryone keeps saying 'DX10 performance will be better, yadda yadda' but I also want to be able to play the games I have now and older games without having to rely on DX10 games to give me better performance. However there is room for improvement of course. They're going to need more than free food and popcorn to convince me to buy an obsolete card. We don't expect to see a higher performance mobile part until AMD can get the power consumption of its higher end hardware down (likely with a process shrink). This is very likely due to the high power draw and low performance per watt we see with AMD's 80nm R600.

While 24 standard and XT versions will exist in the mobile space, there are currently no plans for a high end mobile part. The exception here is the Mobility Radeon HD 2300, which is a DX9 part based on R5xx hardware. While we aren't certain, our best guess is that mobile parts named similarly to desktop parts will have the same internal configuration of SPs, texture units, and render back ends. It's harder to pin down all the specs of the mobile parts, as all the clock speeds (and sometimes bus width) can change depending on the TDP envelope a notebook maker is working with. Let's take a look at a break down of what we do know we'll be getting: AMD R6xx Hardware This is unconfirmed at present, so take it with a grain of salt.

There is currently no add-in retail hardware planned that tops the HD 2900 XT, but we are hearing rumors that faster parts may be available through OEMs only.
